The Second Sex

I found it!  I found a copy of The Second Sex by Simone de Beauvior.  I started reading the Introduction last night.  I'm excited to read this important piece of Feminist writing, but I can tell that this is going to take a while.  If you have any interest in Feminist Theory or history at all, I think you should give this book a try with us.  If you couln't care less about either topic, you should give it a try anyway.

I will continue reading this and The Tales of Beedle the Bard.  Everyone have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

The Tales of Beedle the Bard

I know I told you that we were starting The Second Sex, but I am having some trouble.  My local library does not have it.  While I search for a copy, I have started reading The Tales of Beedle the Bard by J.K. Rowling.

This book is a collection of "fairytales" that children from the wizarding world grew up with.  I am a HUGE Harry Potter fan, so naturally I am very excited to read these.  I read the introduction last night and decided that I will be reading each story separately, just like bedtime stories.

As soon as I can find our other book, I will let you know what I think of it.

Rosemary's Baby

I finished this book on Friday evening.  I will say that I would never wish something like that on anyone; I don't care how much I don't like them.

I figured out very quickly who was responsible for what was going to happen, but that didn't make it any less creepy.  I have not watched the movie so I did not have any prior knowledge about the plot or anything else.  Rosemary is the main character.  She is a young woman from Omaha that has recently moved to New York City and married an actor named Guy Woodhouse.  After two years of marriage, the happy couple finally gets the chance to move into the famous Bramford apartments.  This is where it all begins.  This is where they can entertain guests, enjoy life, and maybe even start a family.  A new chapter in their lives certainly does begin here.

I am happy to say that I enjoyed this novel.  The next book on our list is very different from this one.  We will now move on to The Second Sex by Simone de Beauvior.  My friend will start reading this evening and I will pick up the book tomorrow.  Happy reading everyone!
